PROJECT OVERVIEW

  • UX Research
  • Prototyping
  • Information Architecture
  • UI/UX Design

THE CHALLENGES

I joined the team as the sole designer with a project manager and a developer to improve the visual and user experience. When I came on board, development cycles on Asset Finder had begun. The development road-map was in place and we had 6 weeks till delivery. No core UX work had been done and I didn't know anything about the users.

Solution goals (MVP)

  • 1. Define missing UX fundamentals
  • 2. Correct existing issues and design new features
  • 3. Validate design
  • 4. Provide deliverables

1. Defining Missing UX Fundamentals

The team had done an excellent job to-date vetting features but no UX resources existed for our users. How do you begin to design without understanding the users needs? I made it a priority to gather these details first.

Solutions

1. Advocated up the development chain for a persona development
Created temporary user profiles
2. Conducted user interviews
Conducted interviews with marketing and account managers, design specialists, and a creative director.
3. Created temporary user profiles
Three profiles were created for the labs team to easily refer to for reference and generating user stories.

I conducted 8 different interviews with marketing and customer support folks.
My main goal was to gain an understanding of our target users and their behaviors and feelings using the available tools to find digital assets.
I also wanted to learn about their needs and any desired features they were seeking.

2. CORRECTED ISSUES

Before we could get early feedback we needed to improve the current UI. Having worked on similar products that managed digital assets I was able to see where we could make improvements. All Aras products followed a consistent design system and some areas of core functionality were not following standards.

Suggested Solutions

A. Redesigned Navigation, Search & Filtering
The existing application was not following the design system
B. Redesigned Cards
Creative folks will want a visual example and basic asset details
C. Redesigned Detail View
A preview option will improve the experience

3. VALIDATE DESIGNS

The project manager and I coordinated 18 usability tests, and observed our internal sales and marketing folks interacting with the application. We asked them to perform form certain task leveraging features we wanted to validate, and scored them on their performance.

Product Evaluation: Moderated
